I have to graph the function: y = x

I know how to do it an all but i definitely forgot on how to do something like this..

I know you make up the "x" coordinates yourself and you evaluate "y" but if i chose -2, -1, 0,1 , 2 for my "x" values, would the "y" be the same value as the "x" in other words if x= -2 the y= -2 ?

  1. yep! you are correct cuz otherwise y wouldnt equal x like it says in the equation

  2. Exactly. Your graph is a diagonal line through the origin (0,0) beginning in Q III and rising left to right into Q I. If you convert your function y = x into slope intercept form you can see that the graph I've described is correct.

    y = (1)x + 0

    m = 1  (or 1/1)

    b = 0

    The y intercept (b) tells you where your line crosses the y axis.

    Your slope tells you that your ordered pairs lay on a line whose points can be drawn by moving up 1 over 1, up 1 over 1 ...

    Remember? Good luck!

  3. yes.
