The list shows the amount of snowfall in a ten year period.

18, 28, 33, 34, 40, 43, 44,49, 57, 57

Mode- 57

Would the mode be a good number to describe the amount of snowfall during these ten years? Explain.

  1. No because it doesn't represent the other 8 years. The best answer would be the mean.


  2. The better number to use would be the average of these amounts over a ten year period.  If you use the average, it would be as follows:

    18+28+33+34+40+43+44+49+57+57=403

    Then you would divide to total(or SUM) by the number of amounts, which would be:

    403/10=40.3

    So over a ten year period, the average amount of snowfall is 40.3, a much better number to describe the amount of snowfall and a much more accurate as well.  I hope this helps!
