Make a table of values for each equation.

I know how to do this, but not sure what to do if the problem is:

  1. well...if

    x = 1 ---> y = 425-5 = 420

    x = 2 ---> y = 425-10 = 415

    x = 3 ---> y = 425-15 = 410

  2. substitute

    y=425 if x = 0

    y=420 if x = 1

    y=415 if x = 2

    y=410 if x = 3

    y=405 if x = 4

    so every time x increases by 1, y decreases by 5

  3. Hi,

    ANSWER:

    X      Y

    20 | 325

    30 | 275

    40 |  225

    50|  175

    60 | 125

    HOW TO DO IT:

    Just substitute values for x and solve for y.

    Example:

    Y=425-5x

    Y=425-5(20)  (Substitute 20 for x.)

    Y=425-100

    Y=325

    Y=425-5x

    Y=425-5(30)  (Substitute 30 for x.)

    Y=425-150

    Y=275

    And so on for the other values.

    Students are probably more familiar with the equation written in this form:

    5x+y =425

    But it really doesn’t matter what form it’s in.

    Hope this helps.
