Question:

Math IIC -- I haven't taken Precal, but I have no other choice!

So I have to take an SAT subject test in October because I'm planning to apply to a few UCs and they require 2 subject tests.

I've taken one already -- Literature -- and scored a 770.

However, my knowledge is not nearly enough for any other subject! I'm not sure what to do ... I decided I would take Math IIC because UCs only accept level 2 math, but I haven't taken Precalculus! (I took a summer Trigonometry course at my community college but it BOMBED -- my teacher was a Russian lady with a nearly indecipherable accent and a horrible attitude -- I simply could not grasp anything she said! So I dropped it because I was failing.)

Is it possible for me to learn all I need to for the test in October just by studying Barron's SAT Math IIC book?

I don't really have any options!! Help MUCH NEEDED AND APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks!

  1. It'd be possible to learn everything you'd need to know from a test prep book, but you need to be a good math student to begin with.  Obviously, you're at a signifcant disadvantage without Precalculus, but if that's seriously the only test you can take, then I guess you really don't have a choice.  It's possible, but you'll have to work hard.  And most of the material on that test is Algebra II or below (but there's still a significant amount that goes above that level).

  2. math II C is seriously easy if you use the Barrons book. I have always been a strong math student so it took me a week, on and off, to get through the book. The six practice tests are more than enough to get you an 800. But then again, I was taking BC calculus when I took the II C.
