I GOT THIS PROB FROM MY TEXTBOOK

AND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRY

ITS LIKE ONE NUMBER DIFFERENT THAN MY ANSWER.

SO...........TO SEE IF ANYTHINGS RIGHT..........

IF H(X) = 7-3X

1. FIND IN SIMPLEST FORM H(2X-1)

2. FIND X IF H(2X-1) = -2

THX !!!!!!

I HOPE ITS THE TEXTBOOK THAT MADE A MISTAKE.

  1. H(X)=7-3X

    H(2X-1)=7-3(2X-1)   (replaces x with 2x-1)

              =7-(6X-3)    (multiplies 3 times what is in parentheses)

              =7-6X+3     (reverse signs with negative outside parentheses)

    1. H(2X-1)=10-6X

    For part 2, the answer to part 1 must be equal to -2, so

    10-6X=-2      (subtract 10 from both sides)

    -6X=-12        (divide both sies by -6)

    2. X=2

  2. the book did not make a mistake.

    1. you have h(x) = 7 - 3x, and it is asking for h(2x -1).  what you want to do here is replace every instance of x in h(x) with (2x - 1).  so you have 7 - 3(2x -1) = 7 - 6x - 3 => h(2x - 1) = 10 - 6x

    2. in order to find x when h(2x - 1) = -2, you have to replace the h(2x - 1) part with what you in part 1.  so, h(2x - 1) = 10 - 6x = -2 and solve for x.  you get 12 = 6x and dividing both sides by 6 gives you x = 2.

  3. H(2x-1)=7-3(2x-1)=7-6x+3=10-6x

    10-6x=-2

    12=6x

    x=2

  4. H(x) = 7 - 3x

    H(2x-1) = 7 - 3(2x-1) ----> Simply replace x with 2x-1

    H(2x-1) = 7 - 6x + 3

    H(2x-1) = 10 - 6x

    H(2x-1) = -2

    -2 = 10 - 6x

    6x = 12

    x = 2

  5. if H(X) =7-3X

    THEN H(2X-1)=7-3(2X-1)=10-6X---------(i)

    AND

          IF H(2X-1)=-2

           THEN from (i)

                    10-6X=-2

                        X=2
