I would like to think this has something to do with the Pythagorean Theorem, meaning the sum of the squares of the smaller sides of a right triangle is equal to the square of the longest side (hypotenuse).

3+4=5 when squared, is 9 + 16 = 25, which holds true.

I believe you multiplied both sides of 3+4 = 5 by two to end up with 6+8=10.

3 + 4 = 5

2(3 + 4) = 2*5

6 + 8 = 10
