Math Teachers/Teachers only?

Okay Im currently taking a summer algebra 1 course, so when Im a freshmen I can be an algebra 2 or algebra 2 ACCEL.

I really want/need to get into accel, because im in a gifted program, and most of my peers in the gifted advanced program will be in accel.

Now the teacher said in order to go into accel, you need a 95-100 right? Also you need to be able to move at a fast pace.

Now im getting a 90-93% not sure what yet, cause theres one week left of the class. And I KNOW for sure I can move at a fast pace thts why im in advanced classes.

Now, if I don't meet the 95% and my teachers sees that I move fast do you think theres a chance [if I talk to her] that she'll let me be in accel regaurdless of what she said in the begining?

Shes a nice person kinda strict, but super nice.

What do you think?

Would you put me in accel?

  1. in our school if u are gifted in math then u have to be in the gifted class- doesnt matter what yr parent say as u should be challenged,

    state that.

you have fulfilled the prerequisite-  you have mastered the material - there should be no problem.

  2. If it's up to the teacher, you'll have to trust his or her judgement whether you're allowed or not.  But it may be school policy... that is an entirely different matter and the teacher has no choice but to comply with the policy.  If you were at 90% overally, my 23 years of experience say it would be better not to be in the accelerated group.  But if you have 93%, that very much tells you're very close and should be given a chance.

  3. Wow this is a tough question. beating the system is always difficult. In our system students can appeal and level change they want to the guidance dept. to have it their way.

Since you will be new this year, it may be smart to stay in the appropriate level. If you dovery well in where you are placed, you have something to prove that it was easy for you.

This is usually a level 4 course (the hardest). What would happen if they put you in it and you performed poorly. Som any of my students I have seen be upset for going into my honors class and not getting on the honor roll, because the info kills them. To some people 1 test can bring you too an 75 average, so think carefully.

Also consider your other courses like history and English. Doing all honors courses is not necessarily good as freshamn don't anticipate being swamped with a 5 page essay every weeks and 80 math problems/night

    Good luck
