Two clocks were set to show the same time earlier this morning. But one of the clocks gains 2 minutes per hour and the other clock loses 3 minutes per hour. Right now, one reads 2:30 and the other reads 3:05.

At what time this morning were the clocks set?

  1. ok let me see

one gains 2 min per hour the other loses 3 min per hour

    this makes a 5min/hour difference

the difference between 2:30 and 3:05 is 35 minutes

this means the clocks were set 7 hours ago

in 7 hourse the first one gains 14 min

this means the clocks were set exactly at 2:51

  2. THe difference in timings of 2 clocks = 35 minutes.

Due to difference in speed, the difference is 5 minute/hr.

so for 35 minutes, 7 hr. are required.

in 7 hr. the clock gains 14 minutes,

so the clock showing  3:05, the correct time is 3:05 – 14 min = 2:51

and clock was set at noon 2:51 – 7 hr = 7:51 AM
