Which is CORRECT

A.

(9-7)^2+3

------------- = (9-7)^2 +3 / 5

5

OR

B.

(9-7)^2+3

------------- = [(9-7)^2 +3] / 5

5

The only thing different is the bracket. Please HELP me i am stuck. Oh and Please explain your answer!!!

  1. B. You must use brackets or parenthesis around the numerator since the numerator contains more than 1 term or operation.

    If you choose A, then only 3 is divided by 5. In B, the entire expression in the numerator is divided by 5. So, you must choose B.


  2. B, the whole numerator is divided by 5. In A, only the 3 is div. by 5.

  3. B. The bracket is another way of grouping things together, so it would be like taking bracketing the whole top. I would recommend seeing which one is right by using a calculator next time you get stuck though.

  4. Answer is B. Its because the 5 is over the whole thing and not just 3 in A. Basically it would look like this in another way: [(9-7)^2]/5 + 3/5
