  1. color by numbers pictures of plants

  2. You can use the following rhyme for number recognition.

    The Garden

    One, two, three,

    The garden is growing.

    Four, five, six,

    Now it needs hoeing.

    Seven, eight, nine,

    Down go the weeds.

    Ten, eleven, twelve,

    Water it needs.

    Thirteen, fourteen,

    Here comes a shower.

    Fifteen, sixteen,

    A carrot and a flower!

    *  We usually do a sequencing activity.  On one half of a paper we have a sequencing strip with the numbers 1,2,3 and 4 and then on the bottom half we provide pictures of a plant growing (seed, root, stem, leaves) and we practice sequencing and using the terms 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  They color and cut out the pictures and paste them to the appropiate number square.

    * We've used mini flower pots and seeds.  We wrote a number on each pot and the children added the corresponding number of seeds.

    *  If you are lucky and can grow some carrots and beans or just purchase some (use raw) you can create a graph.  Who likes them and who doesn't.  If you create two graphs one for each vegetable you can use the two charts for comparison purposes.

    *  Add a scale to weigh and compare seeds.  Use large (like peach) and small seeds.

    * Individual graphs... provide a bucket of seeds that are noticeably different... all different sizes and have a child use a scoop and place the scoopful in front of them.  Then count and graph.

    *  Plant a quick growing plant with the children.  Use a ruler to measure each day and compare.

Maybe one of these will spark an idea!  Have fun!!!
