Math algebra problem help!?

Question

3 (d+2) < 6

what is d?

i just need help on this one and an explanation on how to do it, then i should be able to do the rest.

3d + 6 &lt; 6

3d &lt; 6 - 6

3d &lt; 0

d &lt; 0

I really don`t know how to explain it. I probably made a mistake on it but hope I helped a little.

3 (d+2) &lt; 6

Multiply out (3 x d and 3 x 2) so its 3d + 6 &lt; 6

- 6 from either side (treat &lt; as an equal sign atm)

so its 3d &lt; 0

This means that a number multipled by 3 has to be less than 0

Now divide each side by 3 so its d&lt;0 (thats your answer)

You can try it out with anything, substituting d with any value less than 0

e.g. -1

so 3(-1+2) &lt; 6

multiply out to make -3 + 6 &lt; 6 which is right because -3 + 6 is 3 and 3 is less than 6

divide both sides by three = 2

subtract 2 = 0

so d = 0
