Question:

Math grade help please?

I am a freshman taking honors geometry. Quizzes are 30 percent of your grade, tests are 60 percent, and projects are 10 percent (we don't turn homework in). We had a quiz last week, and I got an 82. On the test the other day, I got a 72. There is a project coming up, and a quiz once a week for every week until report cards come out on the 22nd of September. I think there are also two or so tests. Can I still make an A? If so, what is the lowest grade I can make on all these and still make an A?

Oh, and please, studying tips?

  1. Hi, I'm almost seventeen; don't judge me.

    So far your average is a 78 which is really good!

    However, I'm not sure what grade you need to have an order to get an "A".

    The best method of studying for Math is to constantly practice and practice. The more you practice some sample problems it will help you get into the routine to succeed some of the problems and you'll notice that it won't be so difficult. I did that for my Math course and my average was 95 at the end (no joke). All you need to do is practice!! Honesty, Geometry is pretty easy considering that it's all visuals. If you love visuals and you can narrow it down then I'm sure you'll ace it!!!

    Best Of Luck Always!!

  2. It depends what is an A in your school.... You seem to have 77.8 in your class. If you tell me what is the grade to be an A just post it later on the day I will help you to see what do you need to do to earn an A.

  3. I use a points system for doing these calculations.

    Quizzes = 30 grade points

    Tests = 60 grade points

    Projects = 10 grade points

    Then you multiply the percentage you got in each section

    by the point value, which gives you the amount of those

    points you earned.  Add them up and you have a final

    number of points, which since the total possible is 100

    is your overall grade percentage.

    So you need 90 points.

    Given that you haven't specified how many quizzes and tests remain

    it's not possible to do an exact calculation, but let's make some

    assumptions and see where we get.

    You have 1 quiz score of 82, 1 test score of 72.

    Quiz every week until Sept 22, so let's say 4 more quizzes.

    "two or so" tests.  It will be better for you if there are more

    tests left, so let's go with 3.

    Right now you have 82/500 quiz points = 4.92 grade points

    72/400 test points = 10.8 grade points

    Total of 15.72 grade points.

    You need about 75 more grade points to get an A.

    Points you can get are:

    300/400 * 60 test points = 45 grade points

    400/500 * 30 quiz points = 24 grade points

    100/100 * 10 project pts = 10 grade points

    That's a total of 79.  You need to average about 95 percent

    on everything remaining.  (More if there are only two more

    tests instead of three.)
