I cannot remember how to solve problems like these:

43-10w=6w+2

Solve for W

I don't necessarily want the answer to this question, I would just like to know how to solve problems like this one, please.

  1. add 10w to both sides

    43-10w=6w+2

      +10w  +10w

    43=16w+2

    then just subtract two from both sides and after that, divide each side by 16 and that's your answer

  2. 43 - 10w = 6w + 2 (subtract 6w from both sides)

    43 - 16w = 2 (subtract 42 from both sides)

    -16w = -41 (divide both sides by -16)

    w = 41/16 <===ANSWER

    Your goal is to isolate the variable on one side of the equation. To do this, do the opposite operation of what is being applied; in other words, when there is addition, use subtraction, and when there is multiplication, use division, and vice versa as necessary to both sides of the equation.

  3. You just have to rearrange the equation, by doing things to both sides, and get w by itself. But you must do the same thing to both sides.

    For example, add 10w to both sides and you get

    43=16w+2

    then subtract 2 from both sides

    41=16w

    then divide both sides by 16

    2.56=w

    :)

  4. 43-10w=6w+2

    add 10w to both sides

    43-10w+10w=6w+10w+2

    simplify

    43+0w=16w+2

    43=16w+2

    subtract 2 from each side

    43-2=16w+2-2

    simplify (scroll down)

    41=16w+0

    41=16w

    divide both sides by 16

    41/16=16/16w

    41/16=1w

    41/16=w

    w=41/16

  5. First you bring all your variables on one side of the equation, or in other words, subtracting 6w from both sides of the equation, you get

    43-10w-6w = 2

    Now subtract 43 from both sides, and get

    -10w-6w = 2 - 43

    Adding like terms yield

    -16w = -41

    Divide both sides by -16 and you get

    w = 41/16

  6. isolate w on one side of the equation by moving the terms that have w to one side of the equation and the terms without w to the opposite side of the equation:

    - 6w - 10w = 2 - 43

    collect terms:

    -16w = -41

    solve for w:

    w = (-41) / (-16) = 41/16

    follow this same procedure for any equation, if there are other variables, move them to the opposite side of the equation from the variable you want to solve for, if they are included in the same term as your variable, put them on the same side as your variable and treat them like you would a coefficient.
