Question:

Math help! 10 points!?

The temperature T (in degrees fahrenheit) of saturated steam increases as pressure increases. This relationship is approximated by the model.

T= 75.82 -2.11x +43.5√x

5 is less than or equal to x and x is less than or equal to 40

where x is the absolute pressure (in pounds per square inch). Approximate the pressure when the temperature of the steam is 240 degrees F.

Thanks for the help guys, I am completely lost...WHOEVER shows their work and gets right answer will get 10 points.

  1. Simply solve for x because is the pressure.

    T is given as 240 degrees F.

    Therefore,

    240 = 75.82-2.11x+43.5x^(1/2)

    solve for x (use a calculator)

    x = 24.7 pounds / inch.

    Graphing calculators have a solve function, or simply graph the lines y=240, and y =75.82-2.11x+43.5x^(1/2), and find the x intersection of the two.

    Good luck
