- Describe how you would set up the equation for the following problem: If 12 pencils cost $1.92, find the cost of one pencil.

- Describe how you would set up the equation for the following problem: If tickets for a concert cost $10 each, how many can you buy with $35?

I just don't get how to describe how to set them up even though I know how to set them up. =]

  1. 12 divided by 1.92

  2. * 1.92 divided by 12

    $1.92 is how much you spend to buy 12 pencils. To determine how much one pencil cost, you would divide 1.92 by 12

    * 35 divided by 10

    You have to find out how many tickets you can buy with $35 dollars. To do this you must determine how many sets of $10 you have. Therefore, you divide 35 by 10.

  3. 1) let the cost of one pencil be $x

    then, cost of 12 pencil will be $12x

    so,

    12x = 1.92

    solve for x.

    2) Let  x  number of people can buy tickets with $35

    10x= 35

    x= 35/10

    three and half people can have the tickets if there is a option for half ticket for the kids. :)

  4. There is one equation questions as Number 1.

    Let T be the total price.

    Let N equal the number of objects.

    Let P be the price per object.

    Then:

    ............T

    P = -------------   <<<<<  Memorize me.

    ............N

    Or Price per object equal total cost divide by the number of objects.

    This is a good equation to memorize.   <<<<<

    1) So for the first problem:

    The price per pencil = P = $1.92/12 = 16 cents   <<<<<

    2) Look at the first equation that I gave you:  P = T / N.

    Multiply both sides of the equation by N:     P x N = T

    Divide both sides of the equation by P:    N = T / P

    N = T / P is the second equation to memorize.   <<<<<

    For problem (2):

    N = $35.00 / $10.00 = 3.5 tickets.

    Since you can't buy a half ticket buy three tickets and keep the $5 change.

  5. P = 1.92/12

    T = INT(35/10), where INT means do the calculation and then use only the integer part of the answer,

  6. 1.92/12

    if 12 cost x amount, then the amount divided by 12 is the cost of 1

    35/10 = 2.5 or 2 rounded

    How many times does 10 go into 35
