Sarah buys X pounds of almonds priced at Y dollars per pound. Jack spends the same amount of money on walnuts priced at Z dollars per pound. How many pounds of walnuts did Jack purchase? Express your answer in terms of X, Y and Z.

  1. You should try to go to a grocery store and actually try this out.

    However Sarah's cost = X*Y

    Jack's cost will be Z * W

    Where W = # of pounds of Walnuts he purchases.

    The cost the same amount

    X * Y = Z * W

    So the # of pounds of walnuts purchased (W) equals

    W = (X*Y)/Z
