  1. I always struggled with math when I was young and later, after leaving college, found out I had a learning disability. So, if you are truly unable to do math, you need to talk to your counselor about being tested.

However, the good news is ... if it is determined you do have a learning disability, they can teach you new and different ways of doing math and it works! I, who could barely manage to count to 20 with my shoes on, can now do Algebra!

I won't sugar coat this however, you will have to work at it and work at it harder than most other students. Math is a skill and it takes practice. Once you get the concept, you must then practice it's usage over and over again.

If it turns out that you do not have a learning disability, yet you still have a great deal of trouble, you might just need some else to teach it to you! I help many students who have difficulty with math because I see it in a different way. Look for a tutor who might be able to explain things to you!

Your parents are right -- you DO need to study, and study hard. But you may need some help along the way too.

But, if you work hard, it CAN be done! I'm proof!

  2. Everyone is able to do math if they can find someone who can explain it to them in a way that they can understand.

So you should perhaps see if any of your classmates can help explain things to you, or perhaps get some help to find a tutor that can talk to you in a way that you understand, or perhaps try to find some online courses that explain subjects in a way that you can understand.

  3. practice, practice & practice.

  4. The most important thing is to try. Really. It's corny, but you can get away with much lower scores on tests if your teachers know you're trying. I know this from experience. I had the WORST time with math in high school. Some people just don't have the type of brain for that, and I'm one of them. But, because I really seemed attentive and asked questions, they understood I was invested in passing the class.

Get a tutor and meet with your teacher if and when it's possible. That way, even if you still don't get it, you'll have tried. Offer to do some extra worksheets (you can ask your friends or classmates for help on them if you need to) and ask if you can meet with the teacher before quizzes and tests to make sure you have it down.

If you just can't get it and you keep scoring low, ask if you can do a project. I did a project in my senior year on math in the workplace, and I focused on my mom's restaurant and the math that had to be done to keep that business going. My teacher loved it and gave me a 100% test grade for it, and that brought my grade way up.

Make sure you get tested for ADHD or another learning disability. If you go to a public school they'll test you there. Don't be embarrassed about it! That way, if you have it, you can take advantage of the resources. Because I was considered ADHD in high school, I took un-timed exams and one-on-one help with the teacher. I also got to postpone some tests if I felt I didn't have enough time to prepare. Get tested!

    Good Luck!

  5. math is easy when u enjoy it. try to have fun doing it

  6. I stink at math too...i'm in algebra 1 honors and half the time I don't understand a thing my teacher is saying!!! I know how you feel...the only thing i can think of is to study...there is no easy way out of school, unfortunately!!
