You want to use the 50% off coupon for your ticket today but are planning to come back again another day. You are a student but you cannot get the $5 off the two-day passes or the one-day pass if you use your 50% off coupon. Which is the better deal?

* Buying a ticket at 50% off today and then purchasing a new one-day ticket at the student price tomorrow. Show your work to prove option one. Make sure to round to the nearest tenths place.

* Buying a two-day pass and not using the coupon at all.

Look at the given information in the table for Option 2. Is buying a two-day pass and not using the coupon at all a better deal?

Which option you would choose and explain how you arrived at your answer?

table below.

1 day at the park for $44.95

2 days for $74.95

3 days for $94.95?

Groups of 10 pay $419.50 for 1-day tickets.

A family with 2 adults and 2 children under 11 will pay only $155.80 for 1-day tickets.

Student discounts are $5.00 off for 1-day tickets.

Coupons of 50% off admission cannot be combined with any other offer.

  1. The first option is to buy a 1 day ticket today for 50% off

    (44.95)*(0.5)

and purchase a new ticket at the student price tomorrow

    (44.95-5.00)

The cost of doing this is as follows:

    (44.95)(0.5)+44.95-5.00 = $62.43

The second option is to buy a 2 day pass and not use the coupon, and the table says that you won't get a student discount this way either.  The cost of doing this is : $74.95

Therefore buying the 2 day pass at $74.95, is not the better deal because the other option costs $62.43.

    Hope this helps...b.
