i need help with this problem and show your work. U MUST SHOW IT.

3(y - 4)= -2y - 12

  1. 3(y-4) = -2y - 12

    first solve the left side.

    3(y-4) becomes 3y - 12

    it's the same thing, just spread out.

    and then solve the right side,

    but it's already solved so now do the equation.

    3y - 12 = -2y - 12

    so now youre going to add the -2y to the left side,

    which makes 3y become 5y (because what you do the one side you have to do to the other, and you added 2y to the right side, so you have to add 2y to the left side.

    so now you have 5y - 12 = -12

    so now your going to add 12 to both sides, so that makes both -12's disappear.

    so now you have 5y = 0

    which is wrong

    so the problems aren't equal.
