  1. Need to know your province to answer this one as PST (provincial sales tax) varies from 0% in Alberta to 8% (Ontario) and higher.  GST (Goods and services tax) is 5% everywhere.  The Atlantic provinces charge a combined HST instead, but as you don't mention that I'll assume we can ignore it.  Also, at least in Ontario the PST charged on alcoholic beverages is a different rate than the general rate.  Reply with your province and I'll try to help.

  2. Providing i understand PST is pre sales tax? and GST is goods and sales tax? and i have it the correct way round, this is what a came up with. Here in the UK we just get charge a flat 17.5% tax on everything taxable, so its a bit easier to work out.

    1)23.70

    76.50 - 52.80 = 23.70

    2)4.22

    52.80 + 8% = 57.02 - 52.80 = 4.22

    3)1.90

    23.70 + 8% = 25.60 - 23.70 = 1.90

    4)6.12

    4.22 + 1.90 = 6.12

    5)4.13

    76.50 + 6.12 = 82.62 + 5% = 86.75 - 82.62 = 4.13

    6)10.25

    6.12 + 4.13 = 10.25

    7)86.75

    76.50 + 8% = 82.62 + 5% = 86.75
