Math question please help?

The container that holds the water for the football team is 1/10 full. After pouring in 12 gallons of water, it is 1/2 full. How many gallons can the container hold?

since 12 gallons filled up 4/10 or 2/5 of the container, then you can use the equation that 2/5 times x = 12 gallons. or in words, 2/5 of the container is 12 gallons. So now you can multiply by the reciprocoal, which is 5/2 to isolate the variable and get your solution, which would come out to be 30 gallons.
