  1. Just remember to do the same thing to both sides of the equals sign. You want to get the unknows on one side and the values on the other so:

    6x-3 =11     add 3 to both sides

    6x=14         divide by 6

    6 = 2.333

    -3x+5 =7   add 3x to both

    5=7 +3x    subtract 7

    -2 = 3x

    x= .67

  2. 1. x=14/6 or 7/3

    2. x= -2/3

    first, you must get the x by itself. therefore, you must add or subtract the integer onto the other side. then, you must multiply or divide by the number attached to the x on the other side, to get the x alone. the key is to do the opposite given in the problem. if the number was added, you subtract on both sides. if the number was multiplied, you divide on both sides.

    hope that helps. best answers are always appreciated. thx

  3. 1.  6x-3=11   you add 3 to both sides..because what you do to one side you must do to the other...and you add because you do the opposite of what is being  done to cross it over the = sign...

    1. 6x=14 then you divide by 6 to both sides [opposite rule applies]

    that leaves you with x= 14/6   or x=2 1/3 or 2.33  they are all the same answer

    2. -3x+5=7   subtract 5 on both sides.

    -3x=2 then divide both sides by -3 which  means   x= -2/3 or -.66 they are both the same

  4. Lets make it nice and simple..

    1. x=14/6 or 7/3

    2. x= -2/3
