  1. x^2 - (p+5)x + (p+4) =0

    (x - (p+4)) (x - 1) = 0

    x = p+4 or x = 1

    I'm not sure what you want exactly, but here goes:

    if a = p+4 & b = 1, then

    a - b = p + 4 - 1

    a = b + p + 3

    if a = 1 and b = p+4, then

    a - b = 1 - p - 4

    a = b - p - 3

  2. first find the roots for that by the equation

    it may be in the form of (p+some thing) and (-(p+something))

    then you can find the solution

  3. a + b = p + 5 .. . . this is the negative of the coefficient of x

    ab = p + 4 .. . .. . this is the constant term

    then

    a + b = ab + 1

    a -ab = 1 - b

    a (1 - b) = (1 - b)

    a = 1 .. . . it is independent of b.

  4. a+b=the coefficient of x.

    ab=the constant.

    then solve simultaneously for a and b.

  5. x^2 - (p+5)x + (p+4) =0

    (x-p-4)(x-1)=0
