  1. Solve this with a timeline

    At 5 pm: Train A leaves

    6 pm: A has gone 60

    7 pm: A has gone 120

    8 pm: A=180  B= 80

    9: A=240 B=160

    10: A= 300 B= 240

    11: A= 360  B=320

    12: A= 420  B= 400

    1 am: A= 480  B= 480 so they have traveled the same distance

    1 AM is the answer

    A math formula is 120+60x=80x

    But you have to say that starts at 7 pm because both trains are going.

    the answer to the formula is 6 so 6 hours after 7 pm is 1 AM

  2. At 7PM => Train A is 120 miles away from train B

    Difference in speed between Train A and Train B is 20 mph

    So, Train B will be catching up Train A in 6 hrs (120/20) from 7PM i.e 1AM

  3. easy way:

    60mph*2hrs=120mile head start

    pA (position of train A) = 120 + 60 t    ::where t is time in hrs

    pB (position of train B) = 80 t              ::after 7 pm

    Set them equal to see where the position is the same.

    120 + 60 t = 80 t

    120 = 20 t

    t = 5 hrs

    So they meet at 7pm + 6 hrs = 1am
