Question:

Mathematics - Geometry so much data?

OK I've just finished my A levels and made it into the top notch universities reading engineering. So now I got one of my old maths books (pre-GCE). I turned to geometry and the result was as I expected - I didn't remember much. I mean there are thousands and thousands of formulas (some of them apply for specific cases only) but most of them are general ones. How can I remember them all? Am I expected to? Is geometry (not coordinate geometry) used in higher mathematics if you are doing engineering?

  1. You need an intuitive understanding of plane geometry for engineering, but don't have to recall the theorems and postulates.

You will be expected to solve math problems that rely on measures and relationships between distances & angles.  Engineering uses Cartesian geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.

You won't be expected to provide logical proofs of these results.  The real-world will supply all the proof you need.
