Matthew 5:4....Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

Cross reference Isa 61:2, John 16:20, Rev 7:17.

Rev 7:17.....for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes." NASB

Other scriptures ....Ps 6:1-9 13:1-5 30:7-11 32:3-7 40:1-3 69:29-30 116:3-7 126:5,6 Isa 12:1 25:8 30:19 35:10 38:14-19 51:11,12 57:18 61:2,3 66:10 Jer 31:9-12,16,17 Eze 7:16 9:4 Zec 12:10-14 13:1 Lu 6:21,25 Lu 7:38,50 16:25 Joh 16:20-22 2Co 1:4-7 7:9,10 Jas 1:12 Re 7:14-17 21:4

Comment......Blessed are they that mourn. Not all mourners, for there is a sorrow of this world that worketh death. Godly sorrow is meant, a mourning over sinfulness. See 2Co 7:10.

2 Cor 7:10.....Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

What is worldly sorrow ?

Re , 2 Cor 7:10 Don't we all have salvation if we just accept Jesus ?

Is the comment right or wrong , why ?

What does "those who mourn" mean ?

Can you add any relevant scripture or comments ?

  1. Sins bring many kinds of sorrow to our lives.  Personally I felt the verse speaks those who notice these sins and cry out to God, God will definitely answer and bless them.  Nothing more to said for those who choose to turn away from acknowledging the existence of sins in themselves and in the world.

  2. Salvation comes from becoming one with YAHOSHUA.  We will do this only if we mourn our shortcomings, and see that only unity with the Savior will 'complete' us.

  3. I think you are over thinking things. Worldly sorrow simply implies that on this earth in our lifetimes we feel sadness over loss and the other pains we go through, whether it's disappointment, physical pain, loss, etch.

Someone who mourns, is  someone who is mourning.  The definition of mourning is simply grieving the death of someone.  This could be a specific 'mourning period', or simply the feelings associated with it.

The only other scriptures that associate to mourning I could add are:

Ecc. 3:4 "a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.."

Isaiah 61:3 'and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning."

Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain,"

  4. True repentance help's you to correct your alignment with the world's system.

  5. Generally all types of religions have the rites of atonement and mourning which stems from primitive sources confined in religious beliefs which always take place after death or some other tragic event within any society, tribe or clan that has been effected.  Thus when someone dies, it is not just the immediate family that has been weaken, it is the whole clan tribe or society which as lost a member which is a portion of its strength. In the early stages of the human race these rituals performed like by mass hysteria beating their breast, wailing and crying out to their particular God to take this spirit or soul into the internal life of the spirit world.

When John F Kennedy President of the USA was assassinated and while his funeral was on TV from all around the world people who had never ever meet the man mourned and cried for the loss of this great man of peace.
