Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page closing in on winning third world title – Sailing News
Fifth day of the 2012 470 World Championship finished in favour of Australia’s Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page as they cruised into the fleet lead again. The racing started a bit late on Day 5 but the Aussie pair sailed impressively to retain their overall
lead.
Belcher and Page are getting closer to winning their third World Championship title. They have been on top of the standings from the second day nudging the leaders Pierre Leboucher and Vincent Garos.
The sixth day was yet another superb finish for the leader-board toppers as they clinched a bullet and a 20th position to finish the day with 20 points after taking part in 12 races, including a discard.
Speaking to the local media after Day 6 proceedings, Page said that he was very excited as he gave Belcher a lot of pats on the back and a few hugs here and there. He is participating in his sixth 470 Worlds title, but he feels so excited like it is his
first event.
Page added that they will just go and see what they face in the coming days of the regatta. Page is quite sure that he along with Belcher will fight hard to get their third World Championship title.
Page was a bit concerned about the weather conditions but is still hopeful that the wind conditions will not be so harmful for them.
