Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page finally clinch third 470 World Championship title – Sailing News
After a tremendous sailing show in the Barcelona waters, the Australian 470 pair comprising of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page have emerged victorious. The Aussie pair took seven days to clinch their third 470 World Championship title with 32 points after
sailing in 13 races, which also included a discard race.
The spectators present alongside the racing area were expecting the same result as the Aussie duo did show some great determination from the beginning of the regatta and finally made their way on top of the standings.
The duo began the regatta with a tremendous style, hitting six consecutive bullets to grab early lead in the regatta. Belcher and Page were quite focused from the start and did not lose their stance from the very start of the 2012 470 World Championship.
In the middle of the championship, the Aussie duo had some lower finishes due to the rough weather conditions which were definitely not supportive at all. During the regatta run, the racing had to be postponed on a couple of occasions because there was a
definite lack of breeze.
However, the fleet did show great resilience in the hardest conditions ever and did not let their passion die which paid them back in the end.
