Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page of Australia extend lead at 2012 Rolex Miami OCR: Day 3
Second round on Day 3 of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Sailing World Cup in Miami, the 2012 Miami Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR) witnessed some strong competitions on Florida waters. Members of Australian Sailing Team, Mathew Belcher and Malcolm
Page were successful in retaining their overall lead with 13 points after a putting up a superb sailing display on the third day.
The Aussie pair clinched the lead after the first-day proceedings and they were able to maintain it because of some impressive sailing. Belcher and Page began Day 3 scheduled races with a two-point lead over the Dutch pair, Sven Coster and Kalle Coster at
12 points.
They finished on seventh position in the first race but clinched a bullet in the second to remain on top with 13 points in the end after six races, including a discard.
The weather forecast showed no signs of strong winds and the 470 Men fleet had to bear with the same old conditions. The breeze was gusting around the racing area up to 12 knots which was not strong but the fleet got the advantage of some gusts and finished
both scheduled races.
The Dutch pair was not able to maintain their course and points difference as they tumbled down to a five-point margin behind the Aussies. However, the duo is on the second podium and might find another chance to capitalise on the fourth day. Germany’s Panagoitis
Kampouridis and Efstathios Papadopoulos finished Day 3 on third podium place with 23 points.
