Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page of Australia remain on top in 470 M after Day 3: 2011 Kieler Woche
Australia’s 470 Men’s team, comprising of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page, retained their lead at the end of the third day of 2011 Kieler Woche at Kiel in Germany. The Australians grabbed two race
victories on Monday, June 20 on Kiel waters to finish on top with 11 points, followed by Croatians Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic with 27 points.
Day 3 saw the same weather conditions like day two, with winds gusting up to 19 knots. The final regatta of International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing World Cup events, 2011 Kieler Woche
has been a tremendous race so far.
While speaking to the local media after the victory, Belcher said, “Malcolm and I had another solid day today. We had similar conditions to that of the previous two days, so we just wanted to keep
consolidating our position. After winning the first race of the day, we thought things were going well but found our self rounding 23rd to the first top mark in race two.”
He added, “After fighting back hard we managed to get back into the top six which we were happy with. The third race things were more straight forward, after a good start we picked the first few shifts
and built from there.”
