Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page still on top as 7 teams qualify for 2012 Olympic Games
Leading the overall standings from the very beginning of the 2012 470 World Championships, Australia’s Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page began the fourth day proceedings with a determination to finish once again. The pair launched their boat into the Barcelona
waters with high hopes.
However, this time, the luck was not favouring them as they tumbled down in both scheduled races but it did not affect their overall position in the fleet.
On the fourth day scheduled proceedings, they finished on the second podium place in Race 1 while in the second race, they hit the fifth position.
Despite these tow lower finishes, the Aussie team was able to retain their top spot with eight points after taking part in eight races including a discard.
The fourth day proceedings started a bit lat because of challenging wind conditions but the sailors completed two races on time. In the beginning, the fleet had to wait for the breeze to become a bit moderate because it was blowing quite strongly over the
racing.
Meanwhile, seven nations from the Men’s fleet of 470 World Championship has qualified for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
These seven nations include Canada, Chile, Ireland, Korea, Russia, Turkey and South Africa. The teams of respective countries will now be preparing for ultimate competitions at the Olympic Games this year.
