Mathew Hayden retires from all cricket – Cricket News Update
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Lawrence-Hayden-c75233 on Thursday called time on his glittering playing career, announcing he will not play in Australia’s domestic Twenty20 tournament, the Big Bash League this summer.
"This is the end - for me, it's back to the beach and to the other side of the cricket fence," Hayden, 40, was quoted as saying by the Courier Mail on Thursday. "The cricket bats and balls get replaced with fishing rods and reels, surfboards and utensils," he added further.
The 40-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 batsman had retired from international cricket back in 2009. However, he has been playing domestic cricket since then. Last season, he had played for Brisbane Heat in the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League. Hayden had signed with the state team for the 2012-13 Big Bash League as well, but opted not to return for a final series hanging his boots on Thursday, with immediate effect.
The Australian veteran said that it was a tough decision to make, and vowed to remain connected with his Big Bash League Franchise, Brisbane Heat in a managerial form.
"I will be pursuing my initial intention and agreement with the Heat of moving from the pitch to the boardroom, where I hope to continue to make a meaningful contribution to the BBL and the Brisbane Heat," said Hayden, whose notable performance in the inaugural BBL was a brisk 76 against Hobart, at home. "I also plan to be very active in promoting the Brisbane Heat, and to contribute to the long-term success of the franchise."
The Queenslander had also played for Indian Premier League Franchise, Chennai Super Kings in 2010, which the CSK had won as well. He was also part of the CSK squad that played in the 2010 Champions League, and that was his last stint with the IPL franchise.
Hayden played 103 Tests for the Australian cricket team, compiling 8,625 runs at an impressive average of 50.73. The tally also included 30 centuries and 29 half centuries, with a career best knock of 380 runs. He also 161 One Day Internationals for his country scoring 6133 runs at an average of 43.80, including 10 tons and 36 half tons.
