Mathew Morgan deprives Benetton Treviso of victory in Heineken Cup – Rugby News
Benetton Treviso was almost sure of their maiden victory in the ongoing Heineken Cup 2011-12, when Mathew Morgan shattered their dreams with a last minute penalty goal. The teams stood toe-to-toe in their second match of the event on November 19, at Stadio
Comunale di Monigo, and the match ended in a draw after a thrilling contest.
Kristopher Burton contributed for his team Treviso with 11 individual points and Dan Biggar elevated the Ospreys with a much better effort of 13 points. Treviso missed a number of opportunities to score during the match and cut a sorry figure in the end.
After a nervous start in the match, Treviso took an early lead of 3-0 as Kristopher Burton kicked a penalty goal for his team in the fourth minute. It was a nice start for them especially after conceding an early defeat in tournament.
It was a must win game for them to expand their campaign into the next stages of the event. Ospreys, who were struggling with for control of the ball earlier, displayed tremendous team work to score their first try of the match. They passed the ball artfully
and successfully deceived the defending bunches of Treviso quite easily.
The score equation was favoring the Ospreys with a narrow margin of 10-9 at the interval. Biggar played a vital role for Ospreys in their way to comeback in the match during first half. Michele Rizzo surprised the Ospreys with a handy try just after the
resumption of game and retained the lead for Treviso. Treviso increased their lead to 16-10 just in the 43rd minute of the match and refreshed his teams’ determination for a much needed victory.
The first 20 minutes of the second half remained highly result orienting for both sides as they expanded their totals. Treviso was well ahead of Ospreys with 26-20 with 23 minutes remaining in the final whistle. However, late surge from Ospreys leveled the
score to 26-26.
