Men’s Doubles experts Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen lived up to their billing in Li Ning China Open and ensured their presence in the semi-final round on Friday, November 16, 2012.
They overpowered the local team of Biao Chai-Nan Zhang by registering an impressive result of 21-16 and 21-16.
This quarter-final match was played in Shanghai and both teams entertained the crowd by putting a commendable show of skills for 39 minutes.
However, the Danish campaigners displayed superior badminton craft and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
World Number one Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen laid the foundation of their dominance immediately in the opening game and then served notice of their supremacy by winning second set of the match.
In the first set, they did not give their opponents proper time to get settled and confounded them with an intensive attack.
Both partners showed superb coordination in the establishing rallies and piled up an indomitable total of 4-0. This initial lead helped them to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-5.
Later part of the game saw them injecting more intensity in their attack which confined their rivals in the rear court.
The twosome of Biao Chai and Nan Zhang made every effort to come out of their competitors’ influence but they could not hit the mark until last shot was played.
Meanwhile, Mathias and Carsten struck hard and won first set of the match with an overwhelming margin of 21-16.
Next game proved just a replay of previous one as the Danish shuttlers ruled the court from very first stroke and maintained that upper hand throughout this set.
They made their intentions clear by prevailing in four consecutive rallies and relished full benefits of this early advantage to get into commanding position with figure of 11.
After the one-minute interval, Mathias and Carsten gathered some pace and widened the gap with 17-11. They did not lose their grip at any stage of the game and cruised to victory with 21-16 score.
Now they will lock horns with the Malaysian duo Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in the second last round of this Super Series event.
