Mathias Boe, Carsten Mogensen raise Men’ Doubles trophy – China Open Update
Denmark’s spirited duo Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen relished full benefits of their current form and clutched the Men’s Doubles crown of Li Ning China Open on November 18, 2012.
They unseated Ko Sung Hyun-Lee Yong Dae of Korea by sealing a straight-set victory with a favourable result of 21-15 and 21-14.
This game was staged at the local badminton arena of Shanghai as both teams remained head-to-head for 50 minutes.
The top seeded Danish couple; currently World Number one, displayed an unbeatable craft on the court and locked this honour in a splendid manner.
Meanwhile, the Korean campaigners also put an honest effort but their fluctuated performance proved the biggest hurdle in their way to glory.
Mathias and Carsten established a strong grip over the game by clinching first match point and then served the notice of their supremacy by winning second set on merit.
In the opening game, they took some time to read their rivals’ strategy and remained equal until 5-5.
However, they unleashed a flurry of well placed strokes and piled up an indomitable figure of 11-6 before the one-minute break.
After the interval, Mathias and Carsten looked completely on song as they outclassed their challengers technically and tactically.
They bagged valuable points at steady pace and widened the gap with 15-6 margin in third quarter of the set.
At this stage, Sung Hyun and Yong Dae made every effort to come out of this deficit but they failed to tip the scale in their favour until the decisive score of 15-21.
The second set was also played in similar fashion as both contenders remained close on the points table in the establishing rallies but then the Danish players struck hard and sealed their straight-set victory.
Mathias and Carsten started the beating after 4-6 and prevailed in four consecutive rallies. They did not lose focus at any stage and strengthened their grip with 11-7 margin.
Later part of the game completely belonged to them as the Korean shuttlers hardly put any resistance and knelt down tamely.
Mathias and Carsten maintained an upper hand all the way to game point situation and wrap this showdown with 21-14 score on the board.
