Mathias Boe - Carsten Mogensen win Men’s Doubles crown in the All England Open Premier Super Series
Denmark’s Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen have won the Men’s Doubles title by beating the Malaysian pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, in the final showdown of the All England Open Premier Super Series 2011, at Birmingham, England, on March 13.
The number one seeded Danish pair took 62 minutes to prove their supremacy against the number five seeded duo of Malaysia.
In the opening set of the match, Koo Kien and Tan Boon remained ahead of their opponents until 7-4. The top seeds made the match interesting when they levelled the score by grabbing three consecutive points. Both parties were playing well, as the quality
of the game was extremely high. At the interval of the first set, the Malaysians were leading by a slight margin of 11-10.
After the break, Koo Kien and Tan Boon stretched the difference by scoring four points in a row to reach at 15-10. It was a comfortable five-point-lead and the Malaysian duo maintained the difference until the end of the opening set and won it by a good
margin of 21-15, in just 18 minutes.
In the second set, the top seeds of the event were trailing behind until the interval, where they were down by 8-11. After the one-minute-rest, the Danish pair accelerated the pace of the game and levelled the score at 14-14. The speed of the game rose to
an incredible level, as both sides were executing hard powerful smashes and strong pushes. Mathias and Carsten played better this time and levelled the match by winning the second set with a 21-18 margin, in 23 minutes.
In the third set of this final match, the Malaysians were more positive in the first-half of the game, as they built a good lead of 11-7. The top seeds tried hard to break the momentum of their opponents but failed to control the bird. The number five seeds
extended their lead to 13-8.
Mathias and Carsten changed their tactics and became quicker at the net to keep the shuttle c**k low. The top seeds controlled the pace of the game and levelled the score at 17-17. Koo Kien and Tan Boon failed to move forward, as their opponents were playing
a much superior game. The Malaysian pair eventually lost the third-set with a close margin of 21-18, in 21 minutes. The ending score of this 62-minute-final was, 15-21, 21-18 and 21-18.
