Mathias Frank hopeful to mark his Tour de France debut next season
Mathias Frank of Team BMC is optimistic to mark his Tour de France debut this year with Team BMC, which will give him an opportunity to ride along the 2011 winner of the race, Cadel Evans.
Frank had a tough 2012 season and could not secure a single personal victory throughout the year as he hopes to find the right momentum earlier on to ensure his qualification for the 2013 edition of the French Grand Tour.
“I'm ready to be a helper in bigger races and will probably traveling a lot with our Tour specialists next year," he told Radsport-news.
"For the smaller races I want to take my chance and establish myself as a candidate in the general classification top-10".
"I lacked a real top result, such as a victory or a top position in the overall classification, as I did last year at the Tour de Suisse but I've driven consistently all year and I noticed that I'm not missing so much to keep up the very front," said Frank.
Frank started his professional voyeur with Team Gerolsteiner in 2008 and joined Team BMC after spending one year with the side.
The Swiss was part of the strong Team BMC line-up that won the Team’s Time Trial opening stage of the Giro del Trentino 2012.
He also managed to win the red rider’s jersey at the Tour de Suisse along and a tenth overall finish at the Tour of Utah concludes his worthy performances in the current season.
The American side had a productive 2012 season securing as many as 917 UCI points throughout the year to claim the seventh overall position at the UCI World Tour Teams rankings.
Former Tour de France Champion, Cadel Evans made the maximum contribution of 182 points to help the team ensuring its World Tour status for the new season.
He rode brilliantly at this year’s race but could not match the Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome supported by strong Team Sky line-up and had to settle for the seventh overall position after the final general classifications.
Alessandro Ballan made the second highest contribution of 172 UCI points with his astonishing victories all through the 2012 calendar.
