Far from his best early on in the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign, FC Girondins de Bordeaux right-back Mathieu Chalmé has said that he is looking to improve his performances and swept aside rumours of making a switch from the Aquitaine club in the upcoming winter
transfer window.
A symbol of difficulties of Bordeaux early on in the season, Chalmé has suffered along with his club. far from the level of performances that made him one of the best right-backs in the Ligue 1, the defender finds himself with his back against the wall.
This season, Chalmé has seen himself being out of favour.
However, the 31-year-old is not worried about lack of game time. While talking to Sud-Ouest, the former LOSC Lille player said that he respects the choices made by the coach and added that he is looking to get the best out of himself and is still motivated.
The defender also said that his desire is still there and he is willing to work extra hard to raise his performance levels.
Despite not notching up a gear early on in the campaign, the Bruges native is not afraid of the competition that he might face after the club hires a few new faces in the winter transfer window. Bordeaux are now looking to bring in a few players this winter
after not spending a single penny in the summer transfer window.
While talking about the transfers, Chalmé said, “We need players. We are limited. Recruitment (and competition) - it’s part of football. If this does not please us, we must do something else; go play tennis, for example. This does not change our desire to
do well.”
Under contract at the club until June 2014, Chalmé confirmed what his agent Stephane Courbis said a few days back. “We’ll see what happens during the season but for now he does not want to leave,” Courbis had said.
Les Girondins are currently in the bottom half of the table with just 17 points from 13 games and coach http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot would certainly appreciate a few of his old charges to stay at the club. Chalmé could be expected to stay at the club as his experience
would play a crucial role in the final weeks of the current campaign in which Bordeaux might have to fight for survival given their poor start to the campaign.
