Claude Puel, the new coach of OGC Nice has set his sights on reinforcing his squad and Mathieu Chalme is on top of his list
Lack of playing time at Bordeaux has forced Mathieu Chalmé to consider his options. After a less than convincing 2011/2012 campaign, the veteran defender is not happy at Bordeaux as he wants more playing time on the pitch.
It is now expected that the 31-year-old will leave the Aquitaine club in the summer with OGC Nice as a likely destination. While talking to reporters, Chalmé hinted that he might be on his way out.
"I never said that I had returned to Bordeaux to finish my career here. If things went well, I might have imagined this, but now it (game-time) happens less. “
The right-back has barely featured for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot’s side and a transfer away from 2008/2009 champions of Ligue 1 seems more than just speculation. The veteran defender made only 8 appearances for Les Girondins, last season.
With the departure seems certain, Nice are in strong position to sign the veteran defender, who is under contract with Bordeaux until 2014. Recently-appointed coach of Nice, Claude Puel has previously worked with Chalmé at Lille. And the Frenchman has voiced his desire to be reunited with his former player at Nice.
Claude Puel has a lot of ambitions for his side and the former Lyon manager has voiced his desire to make Nice title contenders. With cash to spend in upcoming Mercato, the Frenchman has a lot of names in his mind who can guide his side forward.
With the current right-back, Francois Clerc not in good books of Puel, it is expected that the former Lille manager will sign a new right-back and Mathieu Chalme is on top of his list of possible arrivals.
The only problem regarding this transfer is the transfer fee Bordeaux are asking. Les Girondins want at least 4 to 5 million Euros for their player. However, Nice are not willing to go above 3 million Euros for a player who has had a poor campaign.
Although a move to Nice could possibly help the player rejuvenate his career.
