Mathieu Richard of France returns to Match Race Germany starting next week in Langenargen
The second stage of World Match Racing Tour, the Match Race Germany will take place next week from May 25 to 29 at Lake Contsance in Langenargen with French, Mathieu Richard, returning to Match Racing
after the France Match Race at Bay of Marseille.
The six teams participating in the race will face tough challenges due to the settings at Lake Contsance with the prospect of lighter winds, and the new Bavaria 40S fleet will add more to the excitement
and thrill to the race in Germany.
All the teams will definitely be looking out for a different result this year as last year, the lighter winds cancelled the final and New Zealand’s Adam Minoprio took the title on the basis of count
back. This year, Adrian Lee and Partners Racing Team, Jesper Radich of Denmark, will be one of the favourites to clinch the title and can be strong contenders for the tournament.
Mathieu Richard of France will have some unfinished business at Match Race Germany with rivals Damien Iehl, who won the season opener last week after a stunning performance and won a debut Tour Card.
Iehl can be a strong competitor in the 2011 Championships.
Richard said while speaking to reporters, “It was a great result for Damien. I'm a good friend of his so I'm very happy for him plus it's really good for French match racing to have a win at the first
World Match Racing Tour event. It's obviously a different start for us from last year - in 2010 we led from the beginning but now we are in the position of the hunter. We have to concentrate on making up for missing this event but I'm confident we can do that.”
Johnie Berntsson of Sweden (Berntsson Sailing Team), debut Tour Card Holder, will also begin his tour campaign at Lake Constance in Langenargen as he is also entering into his first event this season.
Berntsson said, “We've been preparing for months now so it will be good to get out there. It's definitely our goal to show how good we are. We know we can be at the top but now it's a matter of improving
and seeing how strong the opponents are. We feel confident.”
Local favourite, Stefan Meister will have home advantage at the Match Race Germany especially after winning the 2010 Deutsche Meisterschaft Match Race.
