Mathieu Rourre joins Worcester Warriors – Rugby News Update
Mathieu Rourre, the current director academy at the French side, Biarritz, has been appointed the new attacks coach at the Worcester Warriors.
Rourre possess a great European rugby pedigree, having played for Paris University Club, Racing Club France and Biarritz. He has previously served as the French National Academy Manager from 2003 till 2008, while also coaching the French U-19 side between
2004 and 2007.
The Warriors finished second from the bottom in the current season of the Aviva Premiership, a solitary place above the bottom club Newcastle Falcons. Ahead of the new season, the Warriors are looking to make wholesome changes, and this is the club's third
appointment in eight days.
Biarritz club president, Serge Blanco, granted permission to Rourre to speak to the Warriors and will be taking up the position on a consultancy basis. He will combine both his jobs.
During the last campaign, scoring tries was a big problem, and the team averaged just one try per game. Hill wants to instil an attack minded approach for the next season. They won 7 out of their 22 games this season.
Hill spoke highly of Rourre, highlighting his advanced techniques as a reason to bringing him in.
He said, "I first met Mathieu when I went to a conference and I got to know him very well. After that I went back to see him during my Bristol days and we would catch up and share ideas."
"He is right up to date on the latest techniques and play in the modern game and I used to invite him over to Bristol."
"He would work with us on phase play and counter-attack and the players at Bristol really enjoyed it. It was a different kind of work to what we had going on and we saw real results."
Hill was clarified that Rourre will put in place the practices, and once he goes back to France, he will carry out the attacking plays.
The Warriors have already started working towards the next season, which should be beneficial for them in the long run.
