Following a morale boosting 2-0 win over Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille at the Stade Velodrome, Olympique de Marseille have moved into sixth position and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 internationals Loic Remy and Mathieu Valbuena feel the winds changing
In round 20 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 managed to beat reigning Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille 2-0 at the Stade Velodrome to move into sixth position in the league standings.
France international Loic Remy scored two goals for Les Phoceens while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Valbuena-c24690 provided one of the assists for the young striker. Following a devastating start to the current campaign, Les Phoceens have certainly recovered well and in the absence
of the likes of Andre Ayew, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 and Benoit Pedretti for most part of the game.
Remy and Valbuena’s respective contributions throughout the game assured Marseille of three points and the duo now feels that Marseille are in with a chance of mounting a title assault come the last weeks of the Championnat.
Currently, Didier Deschamps’ men chase leaders PSG by nine points. Although the difference is a big one, Valbuena and Remy feel that Marseille can overcome the deficit if they play consistently in the league.
“Nine points of PSG? That’s a lot. The road is long but they are ideally placed. There they can lose their place. We have to stay with Lille and Lyon but our schedule is not easy”, said Didier Deschamps who was equally ecstatic at being able to overcome
Rudi Garcia’s side.
The recent return in form of Mathieu Valbuena is an added bonus for Marseille who were heavily reliant on Andre Ayew for most part of the first half of the campaign. Furthermore, Lucho Gonzalez turned in a hard working shift on a cold night in Marseille
and the Argentine has started showing signs of recovery which only bodes well for Deschamps.
Though victory over Lille might not be the turning point of this season’s title race, it would certainly go a long way in defining Marseille’s campaign which has been a complicated one to say the least.
