Disappointed with his playing time in recent weeks, France international Mathieu Valbuena has returned to the limelight following his role in Marseille’s miraculous win over Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.
The tricky midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Stade Velodrome for a long time. The president of the club, Vincent Labrune has once again intervened to quash all the rumours by promising that he will talk to the player after Marseille’s
Ligue 1 game with Bordeaux on Saturday.
The OM president certainly kept his promise and following Les Phoceens’ draw with the Aquitaine club, Labrune isolated Valbuena for half an hour from his side in order to discuss the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international’s future at the club.
It now appears that the discussion between the two men has resulted in a good outcome for both parties.
“Everything went very well,” Labrune said while talking to L’Equipe. When asked about rumours of Valbuena seeking an exit in the winter transfer window, Labrune said, “This is not an issue. He never said he wanted to go.”
The 27-year-old’s meeting with Labrune would certainly play a crucial part in his future at the Stade Velodrome and it seems for now atleast that the midfielder would be playing for Les Phoceens until the end of the current campaign.
Under contract at the club until 2014, Mathieu Valbuena is yet to be offered a contract extension but that could all change very soon. Marseille are currently looking to offer a few of the main players contract extensions and Valbuena would certainly be
one of those players.
