  1. 1) (6x + 5)-(x + 5) = 20   [x represents tom's age]

    5x=20

    x=4  his mother is 24 right now

    2) 2*1.5w + 2*w = 40 [w represents the width]

    3w+2w= 40

    5w=40

    w=8   the length is 12.

    if the perimeter is used to make a square:

    40/4 = 10 to determine the length of each side

    10*10= 100, which is the area of this square

    p.s. this guy above me is totally wrong on the 1st one...

    if tom is 3 right now and his mom is 18, in 5 years, he will be 8 and hi smom will be 23....

  2. well i can answer question number two.

    the first part though.

    you will have to divide

    40 divided by 1.5 but of course that would equal a repeating decimal of 26.66666...

    so then you multiply that by 1.5 and then that would be your answer.

    now for the second part.

    the area is 100.

    since the perimeter is 40. and there is four sides.

    all sides are equal so each side is 10.

    the area for a square is bh=a

    so 10x10=100.

    now for number one.

    what is hence?
