Question

i) Find the critical points and identify whether each one is a maximum, a minimum or a saddle point.

ii) Provide an approximate sketch of the countours of the function f(x,y).

iii) If the values of x and y are constrained to lie on the straight line

y + x = 1

use the Lagrange multiplier method to find the value of (x,y) where f(x,y) has a turning point
