10 ANSWERS

  1. take all the x's to one side and the numbers to the other side

    3x - 5= x+ 7

    3x - x= 7+ 5

    2x= 12

    x= (12/2)

    x=6

  2. 3x-5=x+7

    1.collect like terms e.g x and 3x, 5 and 7

       3x-x=7+5(x crosses the equal sign and becomes a -x and -5 becomes +5)

    2.simplify the equation.

       2x=12

    3.divide both sides by 2 since we are only interested in finding x

       x=6

  3. basicly what u should do is get the x on 1 side

    and the other in the other side lol

    like this:

    3x-x=7+5

    2x=12

    x=6

    when u change sides the + becomes -

    and -becomes+

  4. 3x - 5 = x + 7

    (3x - x) - 5 = (x - x) + 7

    2x - 5 = 7

    2x (-5 + 5) = 7 + 5

    2x = 12

    x = 6

  5. 3x-5 = x+7

    3x-5-x-7 = 0

    2x-12 = 0

    2x = 12

    x = (12/2)

    x = 6

    CHECK YOUR SIGNS WELL!!!!!!!

  6. 3x - 5 = x + 7

    Add 5 to the 7.

    Isolate the Variable on one side by subtracting one of em to another.

    I don't like negatives.. so I do 3x-x=2x

    So.. 2x=12

    Get the variable on its own.. (divide 12 by 2)

    x=6

    Good luck. :D

  7. 3x-5 = x+7

    3x-x =7+5 ( you have to get the numbers on one side of the equation and then get all your common variables - letters on the other)

    2x = 12

    x=6

  8. It's OK to ask your home work if you don't know how to do it but you need to spend some time to work with example problems in your math book.

    If you understand the example problems well, you should be able to solve all or most of the problems.

  9. You have to isolate the x's Get the xs all on one side. Like this.

    3X-5=X+7

    I would -x from the right side. But what you do to one side you must do to the other as well so...

    3x-x-5=x-x+7

    or

    2x-5=+7

    Now add 5 to each side

    2x-5+5=7+5

    or

    2x=12

    Last but not least you have to divide the x by two to get a single x so you can find the value of x, which is your goal.

    2x/2=12/2

    or

    x=6

    when you want to get rid of something say -12 you have to do the opposit, like +12 therefore when you want to do the opposite of x, it's -x. The opposit of -5 is +5. Opposite of 2x is 2x divided by 2 (/ is the sign for dividing on the computer and some calculators) And remeber that what you do to one side you MUST do to the other.

    Good luck!! Hope I explained it well enough. Once you do this type of problem enough you will really get the hang of it, I promise.

  10. 3x-5=x+7

    Add five to both sides. You can subtract 7 but it is so much more easier to add. So 5+7=12

    3x=x+12

    You want all the x's on one side and the whole numbers on the other so subtract the x. So 3x-x=2x

    2x=12

    Then to get x on it's own you divide by two on each sides. 12/2=6

    x=6
