  1. A:B

    3:1 (before)

    5:3 (after A spends $20)

    Since there is no change in B's spending, multiple the "before ratio" by 3 throughout ==> you will get 9:3.

    B is the same 3 but A had 9 units before spending.  He spent $20 (9-5 units = 4 units).  4units = $20; 1 unit=$5

    A= 9 units x $5 = $45

    B=3 units x $5 = $15

  2. before: ratio is 9:3

    after: ratio is 5:3

    so 4 units is $20.

    1 unit is $5.

    at first: Arvan- 5 x 9 = 45

               Ben- 5 x 3 = 15
