  1. Let x represent chickens, chickens have 2 feet + 1 head. Let y represent sheeps, sheeps have 4 feet + 1 head, so we can make this equation:

    3x + 5y = 99 heads and feet

    There are twice as many chickens as sheeps; x = 2y

    Substitute:

    3(2y) + 5y = 11y = 99, y = 9.

    So 9 sheeps!

  2. let c = chickens

    2c + c = 99

    3c = 99

    c = 33

    2c = 66

    So there are 66 chickens

    99 - 66 = 33

    So there are 33 sheep

  3. c - chicken

    s - sheep

    c = 6; s = 5 (c is 3 because a chicken has 2 feet and one head; s is five because a sheep has 4 feet and one head)

    6x + 5x = 99

    11x = 99

    x = 9

    There are nine (9) sheep in the paddock. So, there are 18 chickens since it is said that the number of chickens is twice the sheep.

    Checking if the answer is correct:

    [(9)(5)]+[(18)(3)]=x

    45+54=x

    x=99

    So, the answer is correct. =)

  4. No. of sheep (x):

    x + 4x + 2x + 2(2x) = 99

    7x + 4x = 99

    11x = 99

    x = 9

    No. of chickens and their feet:

    = 99 - (9 + 4[9])

    = 99 - (9 + 36)

    = 99 - 45

    = 54

    No. of chickens (x):

    x + 2x = 54

    3x = 54

    x = 18

    Answer: 9 are the sheep.

    Proof (sum of head and feet is 99):

    = 18 chicken heads + 2(18) chicken feet + 9 sheep heads + 4(9) sheep feet

    = 18 chicken heads + 36 chicken feet + 9 sheep heads + 36 sheep feet

    = 54 chicken heads and feet + 45 sheep heads and feet

    = 99 chicken and sheep heads and feet

  5. 18 chickens and 9 sheep

  6. again type the question clearly

  7. nine

  8. If x sheep then 2x chickens are there.

    so 3x heads and 4x + 4x = 8x legs. So 11x = 99 means x =9So there are 9 sheep and 18 chickens.

  9. 4s+2c+s+c=99 -> 5s+3c=99

    c=2s

    So, 5s+3x2s=99 -> s=9 , c=18

    There are 9 sheep and 18 chickens
