The Borussia Dortmund defender insists his side has a chance to retain the title and believes consistency is the key.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mats-Hummels-c24767 believes that Borussia Dortmund can only retain their Bundesliga crown if Bayern Munich drop points during the second-half of the season. He feels that the table toppers are currently in a favourable position to win
the title, and will only get better once the season resumes on Friday, January 20.
Hummels has been phenomenal so far this season for the reigning champions, and played a major role in his team’s title triumph last term. The 23-year-old believes that his team also has an opportunity to retain their crown, but
would ideally want Bayern to lose as many points to pave way for the Black-Yellows.
Apart from Dortmund, Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach are also strong contenders for the title, but Hummels is not wary of the two clubs. He reckons that the title race will eventually be between his side and Bayern, which
is the only worrying factor for the Westfalenstadion outfit.
While talking to BamS, the German international further elaborated:
"Bayern Munich are and remain the big favourites to win the league title. We all knew that ahead of the season and it hasn't changed. It will be very hard for us to retain the title and it might even be an unrealistic goal. We
only have a chance if Bayern endure a difficult period and lose points a number of times."
Hummels joined Dortmund on loan from Bayern Munich in 2008 before signing a permanent deal at the Westfalenstadion in 2009. The centre-back has so far made 97 league appearances for the club, netting 11 goals in return.
Dortmund are currently three points adrift of the Bavarian giants at the halfway stage, and one thing which goes to their advantage is the added UEFA Champions League pressure on the Reds.
The Bundesliga action will resume on Friday, January 20, with Bayern Munich’s trip to Borussia Monchengladbach. Borussia Dortmund will travel away to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 on Sunday, January 22, in order to resume their title bid.
