The German international has put pen-to-paper to a new deal which will extend his stay at the club until 2017.
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has signed an extension to his current contract which will keep him at the Signal Iduna Park until the summer of 2017. The player’s current contract was set to expire in the summer of
2014 and the defender committed his future to the German champions.
Club sporting director http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Zorc expressed his pleasure on the deal and admitted that Dortmund certainly want the key players to stay at the club to ensure success in the future. He added that the side have always wanted to
keep their best players and with Hummels signing a new deal, that point has been proved.
Hummels had been widely linked with a move to Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the past and there were rumours that the centre-back would make a move in this summer’s transfer window. However, Dortmund have brushed aside
any rumours by revealing that the player has signed a long-term deal.
“We are pleased that a key player like Mats Hummels has signed a new long-term deal. He's not only very important defensively, but plays a key role in our build-up play as well,” Zorc was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, manager Jurgen Klopp is delighted on securing a deal for the player. He admitted that Hummels has immense quality and the player could have joined any top club in Europe but he committed his future to Dortmund
which is brilliant.
The tactician stated that it is great news for the club and stressed that the main aim of the side is to keep its best players for the future.
“Mats Hummels could have joined pretty much every team in Europe, but has opted to stay at Dortmund instead. This is an outstanding development for the club,” he added.
